Tempt your Halloween party guests with an array of candies masquerading as botanical or nautical artifacts. To begin, fill large glass jars with sweets, and then mark each jar with a label that sounds convincing—here, the meringues are "jellyfish skeletons"—while being completely made up. If you don't have a cabinet, you can create your own by arranging the jars in wooden cubbies or crates; we painted these a deep slate gray.
If you're looking for fall decorations of a less frightening variety, we have plenty of harvest-themed decorations that make family and friends feel right at home. Celebrate cooler weather with the warm colors of autumn foliage. Create a planter full of vibrant, seasonal Mums or a display of pumpkins in various shades, shapes, varieties and sizes. Welcome guests with rustic fall wreaths, seasonal door mats and more. Take the theme inside with ceramic and glass pumpkin table toppers, festive candles and candle holders. Whether you prefer live plants or faux pumpkins, our selection of harvest decor ideas is sure to make this fall a fantastic one.
To give your doormat this Halloween update, start by downloading the skull family template. Print out as many faces as you have people in household. Use an X-Acto knife or craft knife to cut out faces, eyes, noses, and mouths. Then, arrange the faces as you want them to appear on your mat, adding cut-out letters if you wish. Attach paper to the doormat with folded-up painter's tape on the back. Then, starting with a little paint at a time, dab paint around the stencil with a foam brush. Continue until the entire mat is covered, and let dry completely before you remove the stencils.
I am beyond disappointed with this thing! It is so cheap looking I'm actually embarrassed to give it to my aunt as a Christmas gift! Thanks a lot for being super misleading in the photos!!! The fabric on the sleeves are already unraveling and it's like they were in a hurry painting the eyes and teeth with white paint or a 3 year old did it or they put it in their machine half A$$sed. There's not even a black pupil on the eyes. The white is NOT even on the eyes or the teeth its like way off. VERY DISAPPOINTED AND EMBARRASSED! Luckily I have an artistic friend who will take care of it. And there's no instructions or anything on it, just a cheap looking hand and head in a plastic bag...... EMBARRASSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Download this bat stencil, then trace the shape onto a piece of black craft paper and cut out the bat with scissors. Then, place the stencil back atop each critter you create and use a bone folder to make creases along the dotted lines on the stencil. Fold the creases opposite ways on each wing to make the wings 3D. Attach each bat to a long piece of string with tiny black clothespins.
With drilled (rather than carved) pumpkins, your life is bound to be a hole lot easier. To make these fun designs, simply cut a hole in the bottom of a large pumpkin, then scoop out the pulp and seeds as you normally would. Next, mark your desired pattern with an erasable wax pencil. Using a medium drill bit, punch out a dotted outline of your image. Leave approximately the same amount of space between each hole, and you're good to go!

These craft tricks aren't too spooky—most are tame enough for younger ghouls and goblins who would enjoy them throughout a Halloween event. From floral elements to furniture that you can temporarily modify, there are many how-tos to get you in the spooky spirit. Using crafty essentials like hot glue and shears, you can create essentials like cobwebs and other visual effects for tabletops, bookcases, lighting fixtures, and even staircases, which can be transformed into a trick-of-the-eye rodent landscape with a pair of scissors and craft paper in all the right places. If you want to up the scream factor, try making a a modified mirror, which can become hauntingly eerie with just a few additions. While twinkling candlelight casting mysterious shadows is a mainstay on front porches for trick or treaters, you can bring these elements inside too with handmade lanterns that can be made a few days in advance.
There’s no way we’d want to get caught wandering through this scene when the sun goes down. Now that we think about it, we wouldn’t want to get caught here at high noon either. The tumbling gray tombstone and angry zombies crawling out of the aged ground in this scene is sure to cause shrieks and squeals as people pass by. To create this look, arrange our submerged zombie props and grave stones throughout the yard with hay layered around the base of each piece. You’ll find it easy to make your home into a horror show for the whole neighborhood to enjoy.

The iconic striped socks in this decoration evoke memories of watching The Wizard of Oz with a bowlful of popcorn. Keep the memory of Dorothy and her band of misfit heroes alive with this colorful Halloween door hanger. To create a realistic look, you can stuff each sock with old newspaper, other socks or old T-shirts. Choose two different colors of tulle to create contrast and visual interest. Black and yellow works well, as does black and orange, or white and orange – dark colors provide greater contrast against the striped socks. Use a hot glue gun to hold each piece together.
